Services for Alma Williams Chamblee, 84, Athens, were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, November 22, at Eubank Funeral Home Chapel, Canton, with Rev. Gary House and Rev. Jeff Godwin officiating.
Burial was in Meredith Camp Ground Cemetery.
Mrs. Chamblee died November 18, 2008, in Athens.
She was born October 10, 1924 in Kaufman County to Lee and Elsie Spainbour Williams. She was a member of Tundra Baptist Church of Canton. She attended school in Martins Mill, received her college education from East Texas Teacher’s College in Commerce and California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, Calif. She taught school in Denver, Colo., and Arlington, and for 20 years at Canton High School, where she taught English and Spanish.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers and sisters and their spouses, Tilmon Williams, Henry Williams, J.P. Williams, Chester Williams, Carl Williams, Iva Lee and Bennie Henderson, and W.A. Corley.
Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Adrian Chamblee, Athens; daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Jim Haynes, Plains; grandchildren, Nicole Haynes, Reagan Haynes and Natalie Haynes; brother and sisters-in-law, Orsborne and Beth Williams, Cross Roads, Izora Williams, Canton, and Alice Williams, Garland; sisters and brothers-in-law, Ruby Corley, Corsicana, Mary and A.C. Corley, Rockwall, and Jane and Dean Phillips, and Gladys and Don Godwin, all of Athens; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, November 21, at the funeral home.
