Vita Durell Sloan

Services for Vita Durell Sloan, 81, Canton were held, November 9, 2 p.m. at Shiloh Terrace Baptist Church.

Burial was at Grove Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Sloan passed away November 6, 2009.

She was born in Canton, Texas on June 1, 1928 to Donie Lambeth and James Durell. After graduating from Edgewood High School, she worked at Southwestern Life in Dallas where she met Bill. Vita was a homemaker and devoted employee of 44 years for Niel and Paul Platter. She was an active member of Shiloh Terrace and former member of Colonial Baptist Church. Vita was devoted to her many friends and family, a passionate bridge player, cherished the farm in Canton, and loved to travel with Bill.

Survivors include her loving husband of 59 years, William J. (Bill) Sloan, Canton; son, David Sloan, M.D. and wife Virginia, Tyler; daughter, Kathryn Sloan Crim, Garland; grandson, Peyton Crim; brother, James Durell of Frankfort, Ky.; sister, Lois Ogletree; brother-in-law, Earl Sloan (Nancy), sister-in-law, Nell Sloan Halbrook (Alton); many nieces and nephews.
