County Fair Celebrates Golden Anniversary

This year the Van Zandt County Fair will celebrate their golden anniversary, April 9-12, with a packed schedule that is sure to entertain everyone in the family.
With this being 50 years of county fairs a Founder’s Reception has been planned for all past fair directors at 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 12.
There will also be events such as a concert on Friday, April 11, at 10 p.m. by Shutdown Town, then on Saturday at 6 p.m. a concert by Buddy and the Flashbacks, and another concert later that night by Bob Mauldin at 10 p.m., which follows the Ranch Rodeo which kicks off at 7:30 p.m.
During the Buddy and the Flashbacks concert however, there will be an Ag Boosters Horseshoe Pitching Contest, one of the many new events introduced this year.
Bob Mauldin’s concert, however, will be taped and he is asking everyone to come out and be a part of the filming for a video.
The fair will also include three nights of rodeo auction with a Christian Family Night on April 9, a Junior Rodeo on April 11, and a Ranch Rodeo on April 12.
On Wednesday, from 8-11 a.m. youth entries in the domestic arts category will be accepted at the Van Zandt County Fairgrounds. Adult entries will be accepted at the Farm Bureau Building, Then from noon-4 p.m. judging of domestic arts begins at both facilities at 6 p.m., then at 6:30 p.m. all market animals (except broilers) should be in place followed by weigh in.
Thursday’s fair activities include Ag mechanics entries in place by 10 a.m. with judging beginning at 11 a.m., at 12:30 p.m. broilers should be in place and the show begins at
1 p.m., followed by lambs, followed by goats, followed by steers, followed by hogs.
Then at 6:30 p.m. is the True Country Van Zandt County Fair Talent Search, Dairy Palace Homemade Ice Cream Contest and Two Senoritas Salsa Contest at 7:30 p.m.
Friday at 6:30 p.m. is the market animal auction.
On Saturday, there will be the Junior Heifer Show for youth in Van Zandt County only at 9 a.m., a 9-1-1 Chili Cook-off at 10 a.m., followed by the Ag Boosters Horseshoe Pitching Contest at noon, Open Livestock Show at 1 p.m. and the annual Pet Show at 2:30 p.m.
The carnival opens at 6 p.m. Wednesday-Friday, but at 4 p.m. on Saturday, and armbands are $15 weeknights, and $20 Friday & Saturday night.
