World Champion Bull Rider To Speak At Rodeo

Three-time Professional Bull Riders (PBR) World Champion Adriano Moraes will help kick off the April 9 junior rodeo action at the Zeke Burns Arena during the Van Zandt County Fair.

Moraes, along with evangelist Ray Perryman, will deliver the message at the Christian Family Night at the Fair sponsored by the Canton Trail Riders, the Van Zandt County Fair Association and area churches.

A free stew dinner will be served at 6 p.m., Christian music will be provided from 6-6:30 p.m., then the message will be delivered from 6:30-7 p.m., then at 7 p.m. the junior rodeo event begins.

Admission to the rodeo is free.

Events for the Junior Rodeo include the following:

-Stick horse race for kids 6 years and under, no entry fee, but a ribbon will be awarded to all who participate.

-Mutton bustin’ for kids 5 years and under, $10 entry fee, jackpot.

-Pee wee barrels for kids 9 years and under, $10 entry fee, jackpot.

-Calf scramble for kids 10 years and under, no entry fee, prizes awarded.

-Junior barrels for kids 10-14 years olds, $10 entry fee, jackpot.

-Calf riding for kids 9 years and under, $10 entry fee, jackpot.

-Steer riding for kids 10-14 years old, $15 entry fee, jackpot.

Books will open at 5:30 p.m. at the rodeo arena.

Churches participating in Christian Family Night at the Fair are New Frontiers Cowboy Church of Canton; Caney Creek Cowboy Church of Grand Saline; Heritage Cowboy Church of Ben Wheeler; Rope, Catch and Ride Cowboy Church of Mabank; Round ‘Em Up Cowboy Church of Wills Point; Family Bible Fellowship Church of Canton; and Grace Bible Fellowship Church of Canton.

Thursday there will not be any rodeo events, but on Friday, April 11, things pick up again for the Texas Youth Bull Riders Association (TYBA) which will begin at 8 p.m.

Events for Friday night’s rodeo include Mutton bustin’, calf riding, steer riding, junior bull riding, and senior bull riding.

Tickets are available at the gate.

Then on Saturday, April 12, things get a little hairy as the Ranch Rodeo rolls into town as 13 ranch teams from all over the state of Texas compete.

Cowboy teams will do their darndest to win it all in competing in events like Wild Cow Milking, Pasture Doctoring, Double Mugging, and Sorting.

Tickets for the Ranch Rodeo will be available at the gate.

Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children 6 to 12 years of age.

Friday and Saturday night events are sponsored by the Canton Trail Riders.

All rodeo events during the fair will be held at the Zeke Burns Arena located at State Highway 64 East in Canton.
