Relay For Life Brings In $163K

Exceeding the goal set by the local organizers for the 12
th Annual Relay For Life, organizers reported that more than $164,000 was raised by Van Zandt County for the American Cancer Society.
There were 53 teams that participated in the event held April 18-19 at Canton High School.
Honorary chair for the event was Dylan Smith, son of Mindy and Lester Smith.
Dylan, 2, is a survivor of Rhabdomyosarcoma, a muscle cell tumor.
The event was dedicated to Stephanie Couch, who lost her battle with ovarian cancer, after battling the disease for four years.
Heroes of Hope recognized during the events included Brenda Taylor of Fruitvale, Dianne James of Edgewood, Mechelle Cawthon of Van, Denise Ross of Wills Point, Lennie Hale of Ben Wheeler, Mary Nell Burnett of Grand Saline and Patricia Summitt of Canton.
"I’m so proud to be a part of Van Zandt County," chairman Summer Haltom said.
