McCain Wins County

Democrat Barack Obama will be the 44

th United States President and the first black President but Republican John McCain won the state of Texas.

As of press time on Tuesday night, with 87 percent of state precincts reporting, McCain had 55 percent of the vote with 4,154,283 votes.

Obama had 3,304,405 and 44 percent of the vote.

Locally, in Van Zandt County, McCain had 15,727 to Obama’s 4,503. That translated to 76.81 percent for McCain and 21.99 percent for Obama.

McCain also won states surrounding Texas including Louisiana, Arkansas and Oklahoma.

Obama won states including New Mexico, Colorado and Nevada.

McCain told supporters in Phoenix, Arizona Tuesday night, "I pledge to him tonight to do all in my power to help him lead us through the many challenges we face."

Obama was in Chicago, Illinois on election night and told a crowd gathered to celebrate his victory, "The road ahead will be long. Our climb will be steep. We may not get there in one year or even one term, but America I have never been more hopeful than I am tonight that we will get there. I promise you, we as a people will get there."
