Jerry Shamlin Retires From City
Operations Supervisor Jerry Shamlin retired from the city of Canton on December 18, with over 24 years of service to the community.
He began his career with the city as an equipment operator in the Streets Department on April 22, 1985.
Shamlin was later named Maintenance Supervisor and assumed responsibility for the maintenance of the city’s streets, water distribution system and wastewater collection system.
At the time of his retirement, he was an integral part of the management team with the title of Operations Supervisor.
According to a press release from the city, he was an effective manager of the city’s utilities crews, schedules and resources. He ensured the quality maintenance of those systems and oversaw numerous enhancements and expansions over the past 24 years.
Shamlin was a hands-on manager who worked tirelessly. He responded to any request and all emergencies. He epitomized the "whatever it takes" attitude adopted by city employees.
He exhibited excellence in all areas of his work and in his representation of the city. His dedicated interest and devotion to duty had a valuable impact on Canton.
The city council and staff are deeply appreciative for his many contributions.
City manager Andy McCuistion stated, "Jerry will really be missed, but we wish him all the best in his retirement."
