EDGEWOOD—Edgewood ISD has received and accepted more than $10,000 in donations this month.

Donations in memory of Austin Dixon were accepted from the Council of Van Zandt Communities and the Austin Dixon Memorial Fund were totalling more than $5,000.

The Edgewood Band Boosters donated a Ford F-350 DC 14 foot diesel truck valued at $3,735.

Other donations accepted by the board were made by Louise P. Smith on behalf of Joshua Ward, the Edgewood Youth Basketball Association, Coca-Cola and Target.

In other business, the financial report for March 2007 and the student transfer list for the 2007-08 school year were approved.

The board also approved the cancellation of the May 12 School Trustee Election because there are no unopposed candidates.

The board authorized Edgewood ISD Superintendent Jack Shellnutt to purchase a new Suburban for $31,200 through an approved Region 7 ESC vendor bid list and to enter into an electric power provider contract for the district.

The new suburban will be used to transport smaller groups of students to activities replacing the 1988 model suburban that was wrecked earlier in the year.

-The board also approved hiring Katherine Kelly for a high school science teacher and coaching position for the 2007-08 school year. Kelly was formerly employed by Terrell ISD.
