EDGEWOOD—A Canton man was arrested last Saturday after an Edgewood officer found marijuana, an illegal knife and something a little more unusual in the man’s car.

Among the items confiscated were 17.8 grams of mushrooms believed to be psilocybin, Edgewood Police Officer Robert Dearing said.

Dearing said Edgewood Police Officer Randy Bowles found the mushrooms under the passenger seat of a car being driven by Robert Lee-Michael Tucker, 20. Bowles stopped the vehicle at the intersection of Highway 80 and Farm-to-Market Road 1504.

"Officer Bowles stopped the vehicle for no left headlight and no left tail light. He smelled what he believed to be marijuana in the car and called me," Dearing said.

The two later found a small bag of marijuana and a glass pipe and rolling papers after Tucker was asked to empty his pockets.

He was charged with unlawful carrying of a weapon, possession of a controlled substance in group two-over four ounces but less than 400 ounces, and was issued a citation for possession of drug paraphernalia.

Edgewood Police Chief Henry Askew said a possession of marijuana charge would be filed.

The mushrooms were sent to the Texas Department of Public Safety office in Tyler for analysis, Dearing said.
