Wills Point Man Wanted On Felony Warrant Still At Large

Donna Limberger, Staff Writer

TUNDRA—The search continues for a Wills Point man who fled from officers Tuesday night after they tried to serve him an arrest warrant.

Travis Wayne Gaston, 24, ran from a residence on VZCR 2212 in the Tundra community about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

"Gaston has a felony evading arrest warrant, as well as, a blue warrant from TDC (Texas Department of Corrections). He is now facing numerous additional charges," said Van Zandt County Sheriff R.P. "Pat" Burnett.

Gaston ran into a wooded area behind the residence. Tracking dogs from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Beto Unit in Tennessee Colony were sent to the scene, as well as, the Texas Department of Public Safety helicopter.

"We also had officers from the sheriff’s office, Canton Police Department, Wills Point Police Department, DPS, DPS Special crimes and volunteers from the Van Zandt County Sheriff’s Posse all on the scene," Burnett said.

He also said that a constable or deputy constable from all four county precincts were at the scene to assist.

The tracking dogs and riders on horseback were on the scene until approximately 5 a.m. Wednesday when the initial search was called off.

"We are still actively looking for this suspect. We will not stop until we find him," said Burnett.

"Anyone who has helped or intends to help Gaston evade police will be charged with aiding and abetting a fugitive," he added.

Burnett said that anyone with information regarding Gaston should call the Van Zandt County Sheriff’s Office at 903-567-4133 or Van Zandt County Crimestoppers at 903-567-STOP. Callers to Crimestoppers may remain anonymous and may be eligible for up to a $1,000 reward.
