Fugitive Located In Garland Apartment
After a week on the run, a Wills Point man was arrested Tuesday and remains in the Van Zandt County Jail under no bond.
Travis Wayne Gaston, 24, ran from a residence on VZCR 2212 in the Tundra community on April 28, and had been a fugitive since that time. Officers were attempting to serve a felony warrant for Gaston when they went to the house.
"The wrapping up of this case was made possible by good old fashioned police work. We followed leads and tips and were able to take this suspect into custody," said Van Zandt County Sheriff R.P. "Pat" Burnett.
Burnett said that sheriff’s office investigators Rusty Grimes and Pat Reedy, along with Texas Department of Public Safety Special Crimes Officer Lindsey Ray apprehended Gaston at an apartment complex in Garland.
"He was taken into custody without incident. The Garland Police Department was also at the scene," said Burnett.
On the night that Gaston ran from officers, tracking dogs from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) Beto Unit in Tennessee Colony were sent to the scene, as well as, the Texas Department of Public Safety helicopter.
"When these dog teams are used in a search, fences are cut and TDCJ will repair them. It is my understanding that some fences that were cut on that night have not been repaired," said Burnett.
"If you have a cut fence and it has not been fixed, call my office and we will tell you how to turn in a claim form," said Burnett.
Burnett said the incident was unfortunate but any damages will be made right.
