Convenience Store Burglary Investigated

Terry Britt, Staff Writer

EDGEWOOD—Edgewood police are investigating an early Monday robbery of the Edgewood Exxon at 714 E. Pine St.

Edgewood Police Chief Henry Askew said two suspects are believed to have broken in through the back of the building just after 2 a.m. Monday and avoided setting off the store’s motion sensor-based alarm system.

The suspects left the property with an undetermined amount of cash from the store’s safe and an automated teller machine.

"They did not have a vehicle," Askew said. "We tracked them through a wooded area behind the property."

Thursday, Askew said tools recovered at the scene had been sent to the Texas Department of Public Safety’s lab in Austin for fingerprint processing. Askew also said a hooded jacket and two masks believed to have been worn by the suspects have been recovered.

Wills Point and Grand Saline police departments assisted at the scene after the burglary was reported about two hours later. Police taped off the entrance to the store to conduct interviews and gather evidence. Askew said the store reopened to customers about 11:45 a.m.
