Three Arrested After Traffic Stop

Donna Limberger, Staff Writer

Three men were arrested last week on drug charges after Officer Preston Roberts stopped the men for driving more than 100 miles per hour on Interstate 20.

Roberts caught up with the vehicle and pulled over the 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse at Love’s Travel Plaza.

Officers Bobby Geddie and Tim Sharfenberg also arrived at the location.

According to a report by Roberts, the driver told Scharfenberg that he needed to use the restroom and that was the reason that he was speeding.

Officers then questioned the men, who were later identified as Geronimo Orozoo Jr., 36, Tyler, Jesus Roberto Malvaiz, 24, Tyler and Carlos Davila, 31, Lindale. Orozoo gave officers permission to search the vehicle.

Upon search of the vehicle, what was believed to be cocaine, marijuana and Xanax were all found in the vehicle.

"The substance believed to be cocaine was tested. It was cocaine and weighed two grams," said Van Police Chief Kelly Smith.

"A small amount of cash was also seized ($2,472). All of the officers involved in this stop did their jobs well and in a professional manner," said Smith.

Smith said that he is pleased with his officers’ professionalism.

Charges filed on the men included possession of a controlled substance over one gram and under four grams, possession of marijuana and possession of a dangerous drug.
