The Van City Council worked through a short agenda last Thursday night with few items on the agenda.
The council:
-approved an amendment to the contract with the city’s garbage pick up provider, Sanitation Solutions. The company had asked for a 4.2 Consumer Price Index (CPI) increase in the October council meeting. The council voted to approve the increase during that meeting 4-1 with Councilman Al McCarty casting the opposing vote.
-authorized payment for a portion of Ray Birch’s helicopter insurance. Birch is owner of East Texas Flying Service and provides his services to many area law enforcement agencies during manhunts and searches. Other cities in the county including Canton and Grand Saline are also helping with this payment.
-approved municipal code contract for city ordinances.
-approved the 2008 tax roll.
-tabled an item on janitorial contract bids.
-tabled action on release on sale of property at water well #2 until the city’s attorney can research the item.
-heard departmental reports.
-approved monthly expenditures.
-approved minutes of prior meeting.
