Officers Arrest Five, While Serving Felony Warrants

Five people were arrested last week after Van Zandt County deputies and investigators served two felony arrest warrants at a residence in Rolling Oaks, north of Wills Point.

On Thursday July, 16, officers arrived a the residence to serve felony burglary warrants on Brandon Eugene Robertson, 20, Wills Point and on Kristina Sweat, 24, Tyler.

As officers approached the house, Robertson ran out a rear door and tried to evade officers on foot. He was quickly apprehended.

There were several other people in the house who were identified and at that time, were discovered to have outstanding warrants. All of the subjects consented to the search of the home where officers found drugs and drug paraphernalia.

Arrested were:

-Sweat for two charges of burglary of a habitation with bond being set at $25,000 for each charge, parent contributing to non attendance;

-Robertson for burglary of a habitation with bond set at $30,000, burglary of a habitation/SOP bond at $20,000, possession of a controlled substance-penalty group 1 less than one gram with a bond of $10,000, resisting arrest with a bond set at $5,000 and evading arrest with a bond set at $2,500;

-Jimmy Richard Peters, 44, Terrell, for possession of a controlled substance penalty group 1 less than one gram with a $10,000 bond;

-Rosa Gunn, 47, Wills Point, for possession of a controlled substance penalty group 1 less than one gram with a $10,000 bond and fail to identify as a fugitive from justice/inadequate bond with a bond set at $5,000.

-Thomas Eugene Howard, 37, Wills Point, for forgery of a government instrument (Rains County) with no bond.

The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Canton Police Department and the Van Zandt County Code Enforcement Officers.

Van Zandt County Sheriff R.P. "Pat" Burnett reminds citizens that Crime Stoppers offers rewards for anonymous tips that lead to an arrest in any criminal office.

Anyone with information regarding a crime may call Crime Stoppers at 903-567-STOP(7867).

Burnett said that callers are given a special code number and when the crime is solved through arrest or conviction, the code number is used to arrange to collect your cash reward anonymously.
