Santa Visits Holly Berry Holiday Sale

Staff Writer

Hundreds of guests stopped to shop at the Van Community Library’s Second Annual Holly Berry Holiday Sale on Saturday, November 14. The Friends of the Library hosted the bazaar at the Van Community Library.

Thirty-eight vendors from the Van area, Dallas, Athens, Ben Wheeler, Edom, Garland, Grand Saline, Melissa, Murchison and Tyler sold their merchandise to holiday shoppers.

"We would like to thank the local merchants for their overwhelming support for the library’s fund raising efforts. And a special thanks goes out to Houston-based Griffith Truck and Equipment," said Library Director Jane Lewis.

Donors to the event included Austin Band, Bouquet and Bows, The Dinner Bell, Beverly Dutton, First State Bank, Leslie Goode, Griffith Truck and Equipment, Hair Shack, Home Depot, Lindale Walmart, Main Street Sweets, Soulman’s Bar-b-que, Treasure Chest, Turner’s Auto and Van Nails.

Friends of the Library members that worked the sale included Bazaar Coordinator JoAnn Reece, Dorothy Wright, Peggy Hawkins, Laura Suber, Pav Evans, Clarence Reece and Carolyn Fields. Library Director Jane Lewis also worked to assure the success of the event.

Van’s Americorps VISTAS Beverly Cauley, Wanda Brown, Ellen Thompson, Martha Myers and VISTA supervisor Joan Driver served at the concession stand with proceeds benefiting the Van Community Ministries Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry.

Santa also attended the event. He sat and posed for photos with many children as he listened to each child’s wish list.

The Holly Berry Holiday Sale has introduced the Van Community Library to some residents in the community for the first time. With Van’s growing efforts to revitalize the downtown area, the bazaar is already becoming a positive draw for locals and outsiders to patronize area merchants.

For more information regarding the Van Community library, please call the library at 903-963-7942 or visit the library at 310 Chestnut Street in Van. The library is located inside the Van Community Center next to the soccer fields.
