Two Council Seats Up For Re-Election

Those with hopes of winning a place on the Van ISD Board of Trustees or the Van City Council may begin filing for those places on Monday, February 8 with the last day to file application being Monday, March 8.

The City of Van will have two council seats up for election with the seats of Jack Perry and Al McCarty being on the ballot.

Mayor Billy Wilson’s seat will also be on the ballot.

Each of these places is a two-year term seat.

Applications for filing for a council seat or the mayor position may be picked up at the Van City Hall Annex Building located at 189 S. Maple Street from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.

To be eligible to run for one of these positions, a person must:

-be 18 years of age.

-have resided in the state for one year prior to filing deadline and resided in the city for six months prior to filing deadline.

-be a registered voter at the time of election (not required at the time of filing).

In the Van ISD Board of Trustees election the places of Mark McClanahan, Lesley Goode and Jill Dutton will all be on the ballot.

Hopeful candidates must specify the place they would like to run for when filling out the application.

All of these places are three- year term seats.

To be eligible for the school board election, a person must:

-be a United States citizen.

-be 18 years of age or older on the first day of the term to be filled.

-have not been determined mentally incompetent by a final judgment of a court.

-have not been finally convicted of a felony from which the person has not been pardoned.

-have been a resident of the state for 12 months and a resident of the district for six months prior to the last date on which the candidate could file to be listed on the ballot.

Application packets for the school board election can be picked up at the VISD Administration Building located at 549 East Texas Street in Van.

Early voting for the election will begin on April 26 and continue through May 3. Election day is scheduled for Saturday May, 9.
