Tiger Marching Band Earns Superior Rating

Randal Brewer, Sports Editor

The Wills Point High School Tiger Marching Band earned a ninth consecutive Division I, Superior rating at the UIL marching contest held last Saturday in Mesquite.

"We’re extremely proud of how hard these kids have worked," said band director John Young. "Our preparation since August has allowed us to perform at a very high level."

"A lot of these kids are involved in other things as well, such as athletics, drama, and FFA," Young said. "To be able to juggle all those things, and still be able to perform at such a high level speaks a lot of those kids. Particularly when you consider that our program is probably in the top five percent as far as level of difficulty."

"We also have the best auxiliaries (color guard and drill team). They allow us to do some very cool visuals. They do such a good job, and really add a lot to our show."

The Tiger Band will take that show on the road once more this year, competing at the Northwestern State University Contest in Natchitoches, LA. this Saturday.

Wills Point will be one of seven bands from Texas in the twenty-eight band contest. The other Texas schools to participate will be Canton, Frankston, Alto, Hooks, Atlanta and Little Elm. The bands are divided into classifications according to their size, and Wills Point will be in the largest - Classification IV – with Parkway High School, of Louisiana. Wills Point will perform at 4:30 p.m.
