Suspect Sought In Elmo Robbery

ELMO—The Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate an armed robbery and shooting that occurred at the Elmo Food Store early Friday morning.
The robbery allegedly took place about 3:45 a.m., and a store clerk was taken by ambulance to Baylor Hospital in Dallas for treatment of a glancing gunshot wound to the head. He was later released.
On Saturday, Kaufman County authorities arrested a "person of interest," Kenneth Stamper, 43, Elmo.
He was arrested for an outstanding warrant from the Texas Pardon and Parole Board. The arrest was made without incident
According to the sheriff’s office, dispatchers received a 911 call from the Elmo Food Store, located at 7398 East US Highway 80, at 3:49 a.m. The clerk stated that an unknown person entered the store and demanded money.
The clerk, not believing the suspect at first, did not comply, the incident report stated. The suspect walked outside, then reentered the location and pulled out a handgun.
The suspect again demanded money and car keys from the clerk, then fired a shot at the clerk, striking the clerk in the head.
The clerk’s car, a white four-door 1994 Toyota Corolla with South Dakota personalized license plates "RAVI" was taken by the suspect, the report added.
