The Wills Point EDC board discussed quotes from TXU to relocate power lines to provide electricity to the Orbit and spec buildings. Two quotes, one for $23,214, which routed power lines down Industrial Blvd., and one for $9,528, were discussed. The consensus was to pursue the less expensive option.

Secretary Lettie Clark reported that she would be attending the East Texas Regional Review Committee Annual Preparation Meeting on Wednesday. The Office of Rural Community Affairs (ORCA) would be at the meeting.

In attendance at the board meeting was Laurie O’Neal, Governor’s Office, who gave background on ORCA. She reported the funding for rural communities is available through ORCA for a myriad of community projects, and that the funds are disbursed through the East Texas Council of Governments.

Clark also reported that reservations had been made for six people to attend a sales tax seminar to be held on May 16. Board members attending will be Scott McGriff, Dyde Manning, Mark Turner and Paul Addison. City attorney Shaina Primeaux and city employee Carla Oldacre would also attend.

O’Neal also gave a brief description of the Skills Development Fund. The Texas Workforce Commission distributes funds that allow businesses to upgrade worker’s skills through classes at community colleges.

Addison gave a report regarding improvement plans to the airport. It has been determined that sufficient repairs to the lighting system could be made for approximately $3,000. Efforts to receive TXDOT/FFA funding are still in the works.

The treasurer’s report noted that the sales tax revenue was $12,839. The board also received a payment from Griffin in the amount of $6,147.16.
