Life in an election year is not always easy for an incumbent.
"It’s been a long, hard job, working and keeping everything going, and trying to campaign, too," Van Zandt County Precinct 3 Commissioner Kelles Miller said.
Miller’s effort was rewarded on Tuesday with a 202-177 run-off election victory over Randy Scott in the Democratic Primary.
"I’m real happy with the win because I want to go on with the program we’ve got going, which I helped establish, to get the money for (county) roads we haven’t had in 40 years," Miller said.
He will face Republican nominee Duanne Harvey in the November General Election.
The other Precinct 3 run-off election, for the Republican primary in the precinct constable’s race, went to Robert Tisdale.
In an equally close race, Tisdale edged J.O. Thompson, 191-172.
"I want to thank the voters and all those that supported me," Tisdale said.
"I appreciate the fact that my opponent ran a good campaign and I believe both campaigns were run with honesty and integrity," he added.
Tisdale will be opposed by Democratic nominee Frank "Tank" Williams in the General Election.
"There’s still a lot of work to be done between now and November, but I’m looking forward to the challenge," Tisdale said.
Miller is currently involved with the rest of the county commissioners’ court in packaging a $6.375 million bond issue with $6 million of that specifically for county roads.
The remainder of the bond money will be used for a new Precinct 3 county office and court building on North Fifth Street in Wills Point.
Miller said he looks forward to serving Precinct 3 this year and, if voters choose in November, beyond.
"As long as I feel like I’m helping the community and the people, I want to keep working," he said. "I think we set stifled for a long time, and now we are moving forward. I’d like to help keep that going."
