Cash Stolen From Credit Union ATM

The ATM outside of My Credit Union was robbed in the early morning hours of Monday.

"This was a very professional job," said police chief Scott Johnson. "With the use of screwdrivers and crowbars, the ATM was defeated in a matter of minutes. The amount stolen is undetermined.

"There is a video tape of the robbery, but the lights were knocked out, and it’s going to be difficult to make any identifications from it. The tape has been sent to the Department of Public Safety Crime Lab in Austin to be enhanced," Johnson said.

Wills Point police officers Landon Corbett, Ryan Roop and J.D. Morris responded to an alarm just after 3 a.m., but the perpetrators had already fled the scene.

"Tools were left at the scene," Corbett reported. "There are prints on the tools, and they’ve also been sent to the DPS crime lab in Austin.

"Every business needs to check their security cameras. Make sure they are working correctly, make sure they are aimed at the right place, and have secure lighting that can’t be knocked out.

"Of course anybody that may have been in the area at 3 a.m. on Monday morning is asked to call the police department and report anything they may have seen."
