Trustees Okay New Building At Primary

Randal Brewer, Sports Editor

The Wills Point School Board recently approved the construction of a new building at the Primary campus to replace four temporary buildings.

"There are four temporary buildings at the primary that housed our Pre-K students that will be removed," said school superintendent Joe Oliver. "One of those buildings will be moved to the old bus barn area to house students in our DAP (Discipline Alternative Placement) program."

The temporary buildings were deemed to be structurally unsound, and those students were incorporated into the main building at Christmas.

"Those buildings have been in use for 20 years, and were not new when the district got them, Oliver explained. "The extra 100 students in the main building, though, is crowded and is taxing the capacity of our bathrooms."

Preliminary plans have been drawn for a building that will be approximately 12,000 square feet, and provide 10 classrooms as well as restrooms and a small play area,

No estimate has been given for the cost of the construction, but the bulk of the project will be funded out of the present fund balance.

There will also be a facility constructed at the tennis courts that will include concessions, restrooms, dressing facilities and a weight room that will be used for all the athletic programs.

"Our weight room is currently in a portion of the vocational building," Oliver said. "Having that space will allow us to go ahead and expand some of our career and technology courses."

In a special called meeting held on Monday, the board hired Stacey Morris as the new principal of Woods Intermediate. Morris is currently an elementary principal in the Prosper ISD.
