EMS To Offer Membership Plan

Randal Brewer, Sports Editor

The Wills Point EMS will hold a subscription membership drive for residents outside of the city limits.

"We are not refusing service to anyone," said EMS Director Colin Blasingame. "The subscription covers a household, so that if they have an emergency call, there will be no charge to them."

The subscription fee is $120 a year, and will cover all costs of ambulance service.

MacBee Water customers have the option of having $10 a month added to their water bill for the service. South Tawakoni Water declined to participate in the program. Those residents would have to pay the entire annual amount of $120 for the subscription.

"The fee covers everyone in the household," Blasingame said. "The average cost of ambulance transport often exceeds $1,100. The annual fee will make sure families are covered for a fraction of the cost.

"Medicaid and Medicare are rejecting payment for more and more ambulance services," he continued. "This membership will ensure that people are covered."

Blasingame went on to explain that other ambulance services in the area already have subscription memberships for residents within their service area. Those services will honor Wills Point subscribers, as Wills Point will honor theirs.

Anyone interested in the membership should call city hall (903) 873-2578, or the Wills Point EMS (903) 873-3011 for an information packet.
