House Fire Being Investigated
The Wills Point Fire Department was dispatched to 342 High Street on Sunday evening and made forced entry into the abandoned property.
"There was an enclosed garage area where the fire was contained, but all the doors were locked," said Wills Point Fire Marshal Larry Byford. "Flames were coming out of the front window, and we made forced entry."
Firemen found carpet and carpet padding piled in the room, as well as an extension cord that had been plugged at a neighboring house.
"The extension cord was run to a heater, and there were a couple of open paint cans in the room, but we don’t know if the heater was on," Byford said. "The carpet was on top of the electrical cord and it was burned through, so it could have been a short in the cord."
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
The Edgewood Fire Department also responded to the incident.
