The Canton Eagles evened their district record to 1-1 with a 7-4 win over Athens on Friday, as Nick Garrison went 5-1/3 innings to get the win.

Canton held a 6-0 lead going into the sixth when Athens rallied for four runs.

Jonathon Huddle came on in the sixth with the bases loaded and the Eagles holding onto a 6-2 edge. After a strikeout, Athens closed to within 6-4 on a walk and a hit batter. Huddle then got out of the inning with a fly to right.

Leading hitters for the Eagles were B.J. Arthur, going 2-for-4 with a double, and Phillip Brown, 1-for-2 with an RBI.

"I was proud of the way our guys bounced back after losing our district opener to Chapel Hill," said head coach Jeff Priest. "We made no errors and Nick (Garrison) gave us 5-1/3 strong innings.

"I was extremely proud of the way Huddle came in under pressure and got us out of a jam."

In the district opener, Chapel Hill’s Dalton Clakley tossed a three-hitter against the Eagles in a 10-0 Bulldog win.

Clakley also hit a three-run homer in the first inning as the Bulldogs jumped out to a 5-0 lead.

The Eagles were in Athens on Tuesday to take on the 0-1 Hornets. Canton hosts Van on Friday.
