Eaglettes Start 3-0 In District

The Canton Eaglettes continued their roll through the district, defeating Eustace 62-40, and Mineola, 58-32. The wins gave the Eaglettes a 3-0 district mark as they traveled to Van on Tuesday to take on the 0-3 Lady Vandals. The Kemp Lady ’Jackets will be in Canton on Friday (tomorrow) to battle for the top spot in the district.

Hosting Eustace on January 12, the Eaglettes held the Lady Bulldogs to five points in the first quarter, and nine in the second to take a 33-14 lead at the halftime.

Kelsey Nixon led Canton with 15 points, followed closely by Lexi Callan with 14. Lindsey Grace and Meagan Wilson each scored 10 points. Jill Herron added five, Sydney Tarkington and Brittany Brewer each had three and Tania Ornelas added two.

The Canton girls repeated their defensive effort in Mineola on January 15, holding the Lady Jackets to 14 points in the first half. The Eaglettes led 28-14 at the beginning of the third.

Grace and Wilson combined for 24, scoring 12 each, Nixon scored seven, while Callan and Herron each scored six. Victoria Smith and Cassidy Perkins both had four points and Tarkington added two.
