Lady Bulldogs And Lady Indians Meet In Regional Querterfinals

The Edgewood Lady Bulldogs and the Lady Indians of Grand Saline met in the Region II Softball Quarterfinals in Canton on Tuesday, with Edgewood prevailing, 5-1.

Edgewood senior Cassidi Henderson got the win, giving up three hits and striking out 11. Grand Saline’s Lindsey Stanley gave up eight hits while striking out nine.

The Lady Bullodgs held on to a 1-0 for five innings before padding their lead in the sixth and seventh. Edgewood’s Brittney Eason hit a triple to left-center in the first inning, and Brandi Bell hit a sacrifice fly to drive in the first run.

In the second inning, Lady Bulldog centerfielder Jade Hawkins made a diving catch to help preserve the 1-0 lead.

In the sixth, Bell singled to right and scored when Jazmine Dunn tripled down the left field line. Dunn then scored on a wild pitch for a 3-0 lead.

The Lady Indians closed the gap to 3-1 in the bottom of the sixth. Courtney Bolin doubled to left center and advanced to third on a fielder’s choice, then scored on a throwing error.

Edgewood stretched the lead in the top of the seventh. Patsy Abate led off with a walk and scored on Eason’s double. Bell got another RBI with a single to left.

Eason led the Lady Bulldogs at the plate with a single, a double, a triple and an RBI. Bell totaled two RBIs on one single. Henderson had two singles, Dunn had one triple with an RBI, and Susan Agesen singled.

The Lady Bullodgs advanced to play the S&S Consolidated Lady Rams in a three-game series beginning Friday, 7:30, at Royse City. Game two is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday with game three to follow of necessary. Results were not available at press time.
