Bulldogs Pounce On Troy, Advance To Regional Semis

The Edgewood Bulldogs pounded out 17 hits and 14 runs while capturing the Regional Semifinals title over Troy on May 22. Brandon Bell pitched into to seventh inning, and Trevor Keele came on to throw one pitch to get the final out.

Edgewood advanced to meet Ponder in a best-of-three series and a chance to play in the state tournament. Game one was on Thursday in Waxahachie, with games two and three scheduled for Saturday, beginning at 2 p.m. Results were not available at press time.

Against Troy, the Bullodgs built a 6-0 lead going into the bottom of the fourth when Troy scored its’ first run on a solo homer. Bell had a one-hitter going into that at bat, and didn’t give up another hit until the bottom of the seventh.

In the meantime, the Bulldog offense piled on three runs in the fifth, one in the sixth and four in the seventh to hold a 14-1 lead going into the last at bat.

Troy made a comeback attempt in the seventh, scoring five runs before Keele came in to nail down final out.

Five Bulldogs had multiple hits and RBIs in the game. Colten Hinton was three-of-four with four RBIs to lead the way. Weston Jameson was three-of four with a walk and two RBIs and two runs scored. Clay Haltom was four-of-five and also had two runs scored and two RBIs. Keele was two-of-four and Bell was three-of-five. Both had two runs scored and one RBI.

"We just hit the ball well," said head coach Jason Seale of the team’s offensive output. "Just about everything we hit was solid, and the ones that weren’t solid found holes."

The team will hope for more holes against Ponder, the winner of District 10-2A. Ponder advanced with wins over Howe in the area round, and Peaster in the regional quarterfinals. The Edgewood-Ponder winner will face the winner of Brock and Mildred.
