Lady Vandals Are 32-0, One Away From State
The Lady Vandals are two wins game away from a trip the State Tournament after a 4-0 Regional Semifinals win over Prosper in Duncanville. Van will meet Celina in a best-of-three series in the Regional Finals. Game one is tonight (Thursday), at 7 p.m.
Prosper was the runner up in District 9-3A, behind Celina, and advanced to the semifinals with wins over Kennedale, Bonham and Princeton. The Lady Vandals go into the series with an incredible 32-0 record.
The Lady Vandals got the leadoff runner on in each of the first three innings, but couldn’t capitalize, and the score was tied at 0-0 in the fourth inning.
The Van girls took a different tact in the fourth, waiting until there was one out before putting a runner on. Brittany Wood was the runner, drawing a walk and stealing second before moving to third on a sacrifice bunt by Chelsea Smith.
Freshman catcher Taylor Harris got the big two-out RBI with a single. That was followed with hits by Taylor Wilson, Jessica Marshburn, Chelsey Moore and Chasity Smith. The outburst resulted in the 4-0 winning margin.
Van survived leaving nine runners on base, but Shelby Harris pitched a three-hitter, striking out seven. Harris is 20- on the season.
The game site for the Celina series was yet to be determined as of press time. Game two, however was set for Saturday at 4 p.m., with game three to follow if necessary.
