Eustace Turns Back Lady Bobcats, 58-27

FRUITVALE — Although showing some good work on the full-court press defense, the Fruitvale Lady Bobcats fell 58-27 to Class 3A opponent Eustace on Tuesday.

Brenda Alvizo led Fruitvale with 11 points. Katie Beall added six, Haley Taylor added five, Paige Davilla put in three and Sarah Johnston and Amberly Hetmer added two each.

Before the Thanksgiving break, the Lady ’Cats posted a 42-14 home win against East Texas Christian Academy, in which Carly McGlothlin scored 11 points. Fruitvale’s other win thus far came against Union Hill, 41-13. The team was 3-3 heading into the Eustace Tournament that began Thursday.

Fruitvale returns home to play Prairieland on Tuesday and will host the Fruitvale Tournament Thursday through Saturday.

Despite double-doubles from Tyler Yates and Ian McCann, the Fruitvale Bobcats suffered a 66-50 loss at LaPoynor on Tuesday.

Yates had 16 points and 11 rebounds while McCann put in 13 points and had 14 boards. Caleb Westbrook reached double figures with 12 points.

Randy Mejia added seven points and James White put in two. McCann also had four assists and three blocked shots.

The Bobcats will host Como-Pickton on Tuesday and will be the host team for the Fruitvale Tournament running Thursday through Saturday.
