Bulldogs Survive Overtime Scare

The Edgewood boys survived an OT scare from Sunnyvale, 65-62. Wyatt McBride hit a 3-point shot and two free throws in the extra period when the Bulldogs outscored Sunnyvale 11-8.

Edgewood trailed 31-27 at the half, but a 17-13 edge in the third tied the score at 44 going into the fourth. The score was tied at 54 at the end of regulation.

Darrius Rogers led the scoring with 20 points, Dillon Parmer scored 13, Calvin King 11, Kiin Tuma eight, McBride seven, Josh Sharff four and Austin Fleming two.

Results for Friday’s game in Kerens were not available at press time. Both the boy and girl’s teams will be in Mildred on Tuesday.

Prior to the win over Sunnyvale, the Bulldogs defeated Rice 76-16.

Lady ’Dogs Win Two

With two wins in a row, the Edgewood Lady Bulldogs are keeping pace in the district race. Going into Friday’s game against Kerens, the Edgewood girls were tied with Kerens at 5-1, and one game behind Scurry Rosser.

The Lady ’Dogs routed both Sunnyvale and Rice to set up Friday’s battle with Kerens. Both Edgewood’s and Kerens’ loss came at the hands of Scurry Rosser. The Lady ’Dogs will travel to Scurry for a rematch on January 29.

In a 56-27 win over Sunnyvale, Edgewood held Sunnyvale to six points in the first quarter, and to zero in the second, building a 35-6 lead.

Mikaela Brown led Edgewood with 11 points, followed by Trish McDaniel with 10. Chandler Short scored nine, Allie Orrick seven, S’Andra Govan and Skylar Hogan each added five, Brandi Bell two and Traci Boyd had one.

In a 65-25 win over Rice, Edgewood scored 23 points in the second quarter to build a 42-14 halftime lead.

McDaniel (15) Short (14) and Brown (12) combined to score 41 points. Orrick scored nine, Hogan six, Bell five, Govan three and Boyd one.
