Bobcats Can’t Hold First Half Lead

By David Kapitan, Sports Correspondent

For the first half of Friday night’s game, the Fruitvale Bobcats more than held their own against a deep and physical Oakwood Panther team.
The second half, however, proved to be a different story as the Panthers turned a three point halftime deficit into a 31 point runaway victory.
Triston Hodges opened the scoring for Fruitvale by taking a 22 yard Chance Earl pass into the end zone for the Bobcats first TD reception of the season.
Louis Collins of Oakwood countered with a three yard scoring dive and, thanks to a converted extra point kick, the first quarter ended with 8-7 Panther advantage.
Gustavo Servin, the workhorse of the Bobcat offense, scored two second quarter touchdowns pushing Fruitvale to a 19-16 halftime lead.
The second half of the game quickly turned into a nightmare for the Fruitvale Bobcats as starting quarterback Chance Earl was knocked out of the game late in the third quarter and the Oakwood quarterback/receiver duo of Travis Eldridge and Damiyne Durham hooked up for three touchdown passes.
Oakwood put up 20 points in both the third and fourth quarters on an overmatched and worn down Bobcat defense.
Despite suffering from cramps, Fruitvale running back Gustavo Servin finished the game with 151 yards and three touchdowns on 22 carries.
Fruitvale will look to get back into the win column as they host the Grand Prairie Eagles for homecoming on September 10.
