Lady Vandals Start District 2-1

The Lady Vandals moved to the top of District 14-3A, along with Bullard, after a 19-0 win over Brownsboro. Kayla Chitty, Carley Smith and Shelby Harris combined to throw the sixth shutout of the season in the win over Brownsboro, and move the district record to 2-0.

Van exploded for 10 runs in the second inning after opening a 3-0 fist-inning lead. Chitty, Harris, Maranda Goode and Chelsea Smith all drew bases-loaded walks to force in runs in the second. Carley Smith and Montana Cunningham both singled in runs, and Chasity Smith hit a 2-RBI double.

The Lady Vandals added two more runs in the third, with Goode getting the big hit, and four runs in the fifth on the strength of a Chitty two-run double.

The numbers run-down for the Lady Vandals were as follows:

Chasity Smith- 1-for-4, 4 runs scored, 2 RBI, one double

Chelsey Moore - 1 run scored, 4 RBI

Kayla Chitty – 2-for-3, 2 runs scored, 2 RBI, one double

Shelby Harris – 2-for-3

Cassie Wiggins - 2 runs scored

Maranda Goode – 2-for-2, 2 runs scored, 2 RBI, one double

Chelsea Smith - 2-for-3, 2 runs scored, 3 RBI

Carley Smith – 2-for-3, 2 runs scored, 2 RBI

Montana Cunningham - 2 RBI

Brittany Wood - 3 runs scored, 2 RBI

Facing Bullard in the third game of the district race, the Van girls suffered a no-hitter at the hands of Erin Kipp, and fell by a 3-0 margin.

Shelby Harris posted a two-hit, nine strikeout performance in the loss.

The Lady Vandals, 13-8 on the season, traveled to Athens on Tuesday. Results were not available at press time.

The Lady Vandals will be in Canton on Friday night, and the next home game will be Tuesday.
