Lady Vandals Fall To Kemp In District Opener

The Lady Vandals saw a comeback run in the third quarter of the district opener in Kemp turn into a 15-point loss in the fourth quarter on Friday night.

Van start the district race 0-1 with the 59-44 loss to the Lady Jackets. Mineola was scheduled to visit on Tuesday, and the Lady Vandals will be in Wills Point on Friday. With the loss to Kemp and the perennially tough Canton starting 1-0, Van needs wins against the rest of the district opponents to stay in the playoff hunt.

Trailing 31-19 as the third quarter started in Kemp, the Lady Vandals outscored the Lady Jackets 18-7 to closed to within 38-37 going into the fourth quarter. Kemp turned the tables in the fourth with a 21-7 run.

C Moore led the scoring with nine points, followed by D Hendon with seven. B Daniels, B Wilkinson and M Milewski all scored six points and M Calhoun had four. K Hutson and K Burnett each scored three.
