Vandals Remain Undefeated In District Play
The Vandals exploded for a 22-4 first quarter lead over the visiting Canton Eagles on the way to a 67-36 win on Tuesday, January 19. The Vandals followed that with an 82-25 win in Eustace on Friday. Going into Tuesday’s against Kemp, Van led the district race with a 3-0 record. The Vandals will be in Mineola on Friday.
Zach Ghormley and Jordan Schmid combined for 50 points in the win over Canton. Schmid shot 50 percent from the field, and was seven-of-seven from the line in scoring 28 points. Ghormley hit four-of-six from 3-point range and scored 22.
Shane Hilton scored six, Colby Rucker and Travis Hand each scored three, Thomas Boroughs and Forrest McFarlin each scored two and Michael Roberts added one.
Ghormley, Rucker and McFarlin each pulled down seven rebounds.
Van held Eustace to single digits in each quarter in Friday’s rout, while five Vandals scored in double figures. Ghormley scored 20 points on 9-of-13 shooting, Schmid and Rucker each scored 13, Hand 12 and Ryan Parham (2-of-3 3’s and 2-of-2 free throws) scored 10. Other scorers were McFarlin with six, Shane Hilton four, and Michael Roberts and Thomas Boroughs with two each. McFarlin led the rebounding effort with nine.
The Vandals will have a chance to all but lock up a district title on Tuesday when the Wills Point Tigers will visit.
