Tigers Open 4-0

The Wills Point Tigers boys basketball varsity have started the season 4-0 after a 67-60 win over the Forney Jackrabbits on Tuesday.

The Tigers jumped out to a 17-12 lead in the first quarter, led by Junior Hamilton’s 10 points in the quarter. The Tigers extended the lead with a 15-11 advantage in the second and led 32-23 at the half.

Hamilton went on to lead the scoring with 29 points, followed by Steven Cunigan with 13. Evann Padilla had eight points, Josh Boyd seven, Trent Jurica four, and Clay Deen and Marquis Burch each scored two.

The Tiger opened the season in Royce City, defeating the Bulldogs 52-40. Cunigan and Hamilton each scored 15 in the win. Padilla followed with nine, Darryn York had six, Jurica scored four and Boyd added three.

In a 74-40 win over Commerce, Cunigan scored 21 points while Hamilton had 16. Marquis scored 14, Boyd 11, Jurica six, Padilla four and Deen two.

The Tigers are in tournament play in Edgewood this weekend and will host a tournament beginning next Thursday, December 10. Sixteen teams, including Edgewood, Rockwall Heath, Caddo Mills, Pittsburg and Sulphur Springs will participate. Wills Point will open against Caddo Mill at 1:30 on Thursday.

The team will be in Cayuga on Tuesday prior to hosting the tournament.
