Races developed late in the filing process this week for school and city positions to be decided in the May 10 elections.

By the time candidate filing closed Monday, races developed in all three of the City of Quinlan’s positions.

In Place 1 incumbent Carolyn Strickland will be challenged by Mike Kerr and Michael Reagan.

For the Place 3 council seat, incumbent Richey Whitehead faces opposition from Clellan Foster and Ash Harmon for another term.

William Howell had filed as a candidate earlier for the Place 3 position but withdrew his name from that position on Feb. 29 and filed as a candidate for Place 5 against incumbent Richard Whitehead. Whitehead also filed as a candidate for reelection to the seat.

In the Quinlan Independent School District election, Place 6 incumbent trustee Eric Kleiber filed for reelection and will be challenged by Rodney Wolfe.

In the Place 7 trustee position, incumbent Bill Slaughter did not seek another term. Rusty Case filed as the lone candidate for that job.

In West Tawakoni, Pete Yoho filed unopposed for the mayor’s job. Yoho is currently mayor protem as the councilman in the Place 4 position.

Gerald Rosebure was the only candidate to file for the Place 2 job. Incumbent Wayne Anderson did not see reelection.

For Place 4, candidates seeking the job are Bill McKee, Edward Roman and Carol Solomon.

Incumbent Winston Dennis is running unopposed for the Place 5 unexpired term to which he was appointed.

In East Tawakoni, a race for mayor will be between Walt Pollard and Buster Thomas. Mayor Protem Mark Himelright has served in that capacity since the recent resignation of Mayor Gary Vaughan.

Himelright filed unopposed for the one-year unexpired term in Place 2.

Tamera McLaughlin is the only candidate for Place 3. Incumbent Dwight Crater did not seek another term.

Lynn Wallace filed unopposed for reelection to his Place 5 position.

Hawk Cove will not be required to hold an election since only the incumbents filed for reelection without opposition.

Those seats are held by Jacquelyn Patterson, Place 1; Billy Cosby, Place 2; and David Polhans, Place 3.

In Union Valley three candidates filed for the two commissioner jobs. Running for those two jobs are Daniel Council, Jeff Francis and Michelle Oznick. Seeking the mayor’s job is Chris Elliott. Incumbent Mayor Jay Atkins did not seek reelection.

The City of Lone Oak mayor’s job goes to Wes Owen who filed unopposed.

In Place 2 incumbent Mayor Harold Slemmons will face off with Gaylon Stogner.

The Place 4 job will see incumbent Shirley Stogner challenged by Sue Suits Hales.

In the Lone Oak Independent School District election, two trustees will be selected from a field of four candidates.

Incumbents Jerry Click and Thomas Patterson are being challenged by Jerry Denton and Alan Wallen for those jobs.
