Suspect Surrenders To Quinlan Police

Larry Briscoe, Editor

A suspect in a home burglary surrendered Monday to Quinlan officers.

Quinlan Police Chief Johnny Thornburg said William Mark England of Quinlan turned himself in at the Quinlan Police Department.

Hunt County Sheriff Randy Meeks said they had been looking for England for two weeks after a burglary incident when England’s wife, Jennifer Ann England, was arrested.

"He got away from us," Meeks said at an incident that occurred in late July. He said a resident interrupted a burglary at his home and "chased burglars while notifying the sheriff’s office."

Meeks said, "Deputies responded and continued the pursuit in the mud and driving rain. One of the two suspects was taken into custody. Some of the property was recovered."

When searching for England, Meeks said deputies acted on a tip from a citizen and went to a location. "When deputies arrived, consent to search the residence was obtained," the sheriff said. "While searching, deputies observed in plain view a small baggie of marijuana and a small glass pipe typically used to smoke methamphetamines."

After a search warrant was obtained, Meeks said "a significant amount of narcotics was recovered as well as firearms and a large amount of possible stolen property and numerous digital scales. A $20 bill was found as well that appeared to be counterfeit. Two subjects were taken into custody at the residence and charged with offenses ranging from possession of marijuana to maufacture and delivery of a controlled substance."

In unrelated cases, the sheriff said a Hunt County investigator followed up on leads that were developed after the arrest of two persons and the recovery of additional stolen property.

Quinlan Chief Thornburg said his officer, Richard Gomez, arrested two suspects in the parking lot of W.H. Ford High School in connection with burglaries.

Gomez said he made the arrests close to midnight when stolen property was presumably going to be sold in the parking lot. The officer said after the suspects were taken to jail, additional information was given.

Meeks said, "Assisted by a sergeant of the Department of Public Safety Auto Theft Task Force, deputies recovered two watercrafts stolen out of Hunt County and a horse trailer stolen out of Rockwall County. Yet another investigator recovered a tractor, hayfork, two lawn mowers, two shredders and various other items from an unrelated incident."
